The very scenic drive starts out as a red gravel road and runs beside the Colorado River. The "almost zero traffic" approximately 35 mile road trip drive runs through the very small "town" of Burns and comes out near Dotsero near I-70 exit 133. The part of the road toward the south (Dotsero) end is old blacktop, but still follows the Colorado River in the valley and is very scenic.
The winding gravel road was an easy drive in our 2-wheel drive van.
I took over 300 photos and video clips of the many scenic views of the 35 mile winding road, the adjacent Colorado Mountains, and the peaceful Colorado River. Our three and one half hour winding scenic drive obviously included a lot of time at "Photo and Video pullovers!"
The peaceful drive in the valley and caynon beside the Colorado River was one of the highlights of our Colorado Road Trip Vacation Getaway. We would like to do it again in the morning with the sun coming from the east starting from the opposite end near Dotsero, and take even more time (and pictures) and do a few of the more remote side roads we saw along the way.
Take plenty of camera memory cards and batteries! -- and a picnic lunch to eat at a scenic pulloff along the "no traffic" drive where you can relax and listen to the peaceful Colorado River and view the "picture perfect" Colorado Rocky Mountains!
The Colorado River photos road trip is definately one of our "Top Pick" Day Trip Scenic Road Trips that we took in the Vail Colorado area.
